God Triumphs Over Unworthiness

Jacob prayed to God in Genesis 32:10, “I am not worthy of all the unfailing love and faithfulness you have shown to me, your servant. When I left home and crossed the Jordan River, I owned nothing except a walking stick. Now my household fills two large camps.”

As I sat on the dock one afternoon, I was anxious about many things. The finances of Truth & Table being one of them. I fretted and let my own thoughts and understanding carry my mind away.

I’ll just let it go, and give it all to them.

{Them being, my sisters in Christ, who help steward T&T}

They’ll be better off without me.

Once I am gone, then it will succeed.

The LORD interrupted my thoughts with a memory from many years ago. I was sitting in a bathroom stall, crying out to God about my husband, David:

Just take him away from me, LORD!

He’s too good for me!

I don’t deserve him.

What was a shout in that moment, over the years, had dulled to a quiet whisper that would peek it’s head up in my heart, only every now and then.

The Lord whispered:

You’ve believed this lie for a long time.

Tell Me.

Is Jesus worthy of having Truth & Table succeed?

Yes, of course He is.

Is Jesus worthy of having all the debt paid off?

Well, Yes.

Is Jesus worthy of a beautiful, thriving marriage?

Yes, He is!

Who lives in you?

It is not I who live, but Christ who lives in me!

I could not stop smiling! It was like the breath of God blew down a brick wall in my heart and mind! I was so accustomed to living and working around it, I had no idea there was a view beyond it - no recollection of life before the lie. And all of the sudden it’s gone, it’s clear blue skies and all I can see is Sonshine!

Jesus is worthy of having Truth & Table succeed and be debt free!

Jesus is worthy of our beautiful and thriving marriage!

How amazing that Jesus is not only our righteousness, but He is also our worthiness! This new mindset is transforming, renewing, and flat out freedom. Especially to one whose mind has deep, worn, wagon-wheel ruts of contemplating and calculating her own worth, in the harshness of her own sight.

Jesus, in His rightful place of holding, carrying, and defining true worthiness, completely bulldozes those old, dead-end roads, and blazes a highway full of praise and freedom, aimed straight toward the Son.

The gospel of Jesus Christ, has never been, nor will it ever be about what we do or do not deserve. There is nothing we can try and earn from God that Jesus didn’t already pay for, in full, on our behalf. He paid for us, in our entirety, with His glorious blood. All of You, is now all of Him. Strengths, weaknesses, successes, failures, wins, losses, the ashes, the beauty - and all the GLORY that lies in between, belongs to Jesus. He is so worthy of it all.

The LORD reminded me of something He whispered to me some time ago.

There is nothing I wouldn’t give to Christ in you.

It sounded good and nice at the time, but today, there is a whole new light by which I am able to receive and understand this truth.

Jesus is worthy of all the goodness, kindness, mercy, favor, love, acceptance, approval, affection, and blessings of God! Wouldn’t you agree?

And now He lives in you.

Your life a vessel for Jesus to receive all that He is worthy of receiving from the Father. Our faith in Jesus Christ, carries with it the gift of being enfolded as one into the love of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Completely covered, surrounded, and eclipsed in the love of God. This is our reality.

The morning after the LORD gave me this revelation, I laid in bed, opened my eyes, stretched out my hands and sprawled out my legs, like I was ready to receive something BIG, and I prayed:

I receive all the goodness, kindness, love, joy, favor, and blessings that you desire to pour out on Jesus in me today! Amen!

I don’t ever remember receiving so readily, easily, joyfully, and expectantly from our Father! With Jesus exalted in His rightful place of worthiness - there is no work to be done! We are free to live in His love and be led in the good things He planned for us to do long ago.

Let’s go back to the end of Jacob’s prayer from Genesis 32:12:

But you promised me, ‘I will surely treat you kindly, and I will multiply your descendants until they become as numerous as the sands along the seashore - too many to count.’”

Did you see that? “But you promised me…” Even Jacob acknowledged that God’s faithfulness to keep His promise overcame any unworthiness of his own.

Ephesians 2:7-10

So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all He has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.

God saved you by His grace when you first believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.

Isn’t this amazing! God will point to YOU as an example of the incredible wealth of His grace and kindness, as shown in all He has done for you who are united with Christ Jesus. Just as Jesus revealed the Father, so now has He made your life a prism through which He shines and reveals Himself to the world. It’s all about Him. His faithfulness, His kindness, His grace, His worthiness!

Christ Jesus makes us holy and blameless in God’s sight (Colossians 1:22) and gives the Father unrestricted access to pour out His kindness and faithfulness into our lives. Nothing we could earn. Jesus paid it all. A gift determined altogether by the Giver. Muting and silencing altogether the question of “am I worthy or deserving?”

We have been given the joy of receiving, through this one resounding Truth…

Jesus is worthy!
And Jesus is worthy IN you!
